I was out scouting portrait locations with my beautiful wife this past weekend and have a question to pose. What is the best way to determine if a photo should be shown in color or black and white? I’ve got some thoughts on this but would love to know what you think.

Stacy is beautiful in both! I think I like the color image better. It really shows the different tones in her skin and her lips. I think the B&W version washes out a lot of her depth. I can really see how much you love each other in your photo’s of her!!
You a such a wonderful photographer Nathan! Keep up the good work!
For this particular photo of Stacy, I prefer the color version because, since she’s more in the shadows, her purple sunglasses and shirt/hoodie just “pop” out and make her stand out more.
Now the first two photos you took of Stacy for “my favorite model” on the next page are just beautiful and perfect examples of how/when to choose whether to use color or B&W. Gorgeous wife and photos! Great work, Nathan…
well, I agree with your friends, color is the best… for one, I LOVE purple..its the bestest color ever…
and she looks hot it her purple attire…. I think black/white reserved for more reserved,or ‘formal’ type
shot…. cant wait to see more of your stuff from africa… glad you back, dude.
I’ve always thought of B&W as the best way to show detail & contrast, and I have to agree with the others that for this one, the color image works best. Mostly because the detail is in the color, and makes it much more vibrant. If the image was a closer, detailed shot of her face, I would say go, B&W to draw out the details in her face, hair and shadows. Great use of angles by the way!
